This Antique Draw-Leaf Refectory / Tavern Table (most likely English or Continental), with character-rich depth, pre-industrial joinery, and hand-worked surfaces, has undeniable soul. It can be used beautifully in a dining format or as a console, foyer table, or even as a statement piece and display surface.
Circa late 18th century or early 19th century
Draw-leaf extension design with original extending, hand-planed and hidden table leaves (beneath center-main tabletop)
Hand-turned baluster legs
Mortise-and-tenon elements, handmade pegs, and visible tool marks beneath the table from period carpentry
Good antique condition, exhibiting age-appropriate wear consistent with its 100-200-year life, including extensive surface wear. Being offered as found, unrestored. Areas of wood loss and degradation, including exposed grain, particularly along edges, stretchers, and underside, and some cracking and separation in joints around leg mortises. Old nails, replaced wood segments, pegs, and historic repairs are visible. Wear to finish, surface checking, oxidation, scratches, and patinated exposed wood are present throughout.
While the draw leaves extend, their functionality should be assessed by a restorer if intended for everyday dining use.
