Description

This Early 19th-century Federal Slant-front Desk is a monument to the elegance and craftsmanship of America’s Federal period, built from rich mahogany and with a wonderful patina that reflects its age. This amazing piece of history has a slant-front lid that, when dropped, exposes an excellent writing surface. Behind the writing panel, there are a variety of organizational cubbies and drawers with modest and delicate brass knobs, as well as scalloped accents and elegantly carved edges that highlight the period’s Federal design. Four graduated drawers span the width of the piece, each with brass handles and escutcheons framing each keyhole. The desk’s base is supported by finely turned legs that softly taper down to rest on delicate, slightly elevated feet, while a carved apron gently joins the legs. The piece is ideal for a study, library, or grand hallway, and will anchor any home area with a touch of American tradition and flair.
